Newport Hospitality Group leads the property’s return to hotel operations, bringing refreshed accommodations, local jobs, and Hilton hospitality back to Pittsburgh

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — August 25, 2026 — Newport Hospitality Group (“Newport”) today announced the return of the Hampton Inn by Hilton Pittsburgh University/Medical Center to full hotel operations. The hotel had been used temporarily as student housing by the University of Pittsburgh during the past year.

“We are pleased to bring the property back to its original purpose and re-establish it as part of Pittsburgh’s hospitality community,” said Adam Hill, Vice President of Operations for Newport Hospitality Group. “The building has served the community in different ways, and we are proud to help begin its next chapter by welcoming travelers back, creating local jobs, and delivering the dependable hospitality that guests expect from Hampton by Hilton.”

Preparing the property for its return required a comprehensive operational transition. Newport’s leadership team restored hotel systems and infrastructure, recruited and trained associates, prepared guestrooms and public spaces, and ensured the property meets current Hilton brand, guest-service and safety standards.

“Converting a property that had been used for longer-term student housing back into a fully functioning hotel presents an exciting opportunity,” Hill said. “It touches nearly every aspect of the business, from the physical building and furnishings to technology, staffing, training and brand standards. Today, when guests walk through the doors, they will experience a fresh, welcoming Hampton Inn.”

The reopening restores hotel inventory to the Pittsburgh market at a time when the city continues to welcome a diverse mix of university-related visitors, business travelers, leisure guests, families, groups and others.
