Peer Perspective: The Calm Behind the Calendar

Newport’s Executive Assistant, Hilary, and her friends and family

By the time most people start their day, Hilary Eason has likely already solved three problems, rearranged a schedule, answered a dozen questions, and helped someone find exactly what they need.

As Newport’s Executive Assistant, Hilary works behind the scenes supporting senior leadership, coordinating priorities, and helping keep countless moving pieces aligned. It’s a role built on organization, trust, and adaptability. After seven years with Newport, she has become one of the steady hands helping guide the company through both everyday operations and unexpected challenges.

“Seven years at Newport has given me a front-row seat to how much collaboration, communication, and problem-solving happens behind the scenes every single day,” Hilary said. “I think people would be surprised to learn how much of keeping a company moving comes down to relationships and adaptability.”

While many see the meetings, events, and announcements, Hilary sees the work that happens before those moments ever arrive. The planning, preparation, coordination, and communication that often go unnoticed are what allow teams across Newport to focus on serving guests, supporting owners, and leading their hotels.

No two days are ever the same.

“The biggest wins often happen quietly,” she explained. “Through teamwork, flexibility, and people stepping in to support each other when it matters most.”

For someone who manages calendars, priorities, personalities, and countless details, remaining calm is a skill she has carefully developed over time.

“I’ve learned that staying calm starts with staying prepared,” she said. “I rely heavily on organization, prioritization, and communication, but I also try to keep perspective. Things can change quickly, so being flexible is just as important as having a plan.”

That mindset has also given her a unique vantage point on leadership. Working closely with Newport’s executive team has allowed her to observe how important decisions are made and what qualities consistently define effective leaders.

“One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that the best leaders are willing to listen,” Hilary shared. “Strong leadership isn’t just about making decisions. It’s about building trust, considering different perspectives, and staying focused on people while still moving the business forward.”

Over the past seven years, there have been countless moments that reinforced why she loves what she does. Yet the memories that stand out most are rarely tied to a specific meeting, project, or event.

Instead, they are the moments when people come together.

“Whether it’s supporting properties during unexpected challenges, helping solve problems behind the scenes, or coming alongside other team members during important life events, those moments remind me that the work we do truly impacts people.”

That people-first mindset is reflected in Hilary’s personal philosophy.

“My philosophy has always been to lead with professionalism, trust, and kindness,” she said. “Supporting people well means being dependable, communicating clearly, and understanding that every person and situation is different.”

Dependability has become one of her hallmarks. Whether anticipating needs before they arise, handling sensitive situations with discretion, or simply being willing to help wherever needed, Hilary has built a reputation as someone others can count on.

Outside of work, however, another important title takes center stage.

“I’m an Uber Mom,” she laughed.

Most of her free time is spent shuttling her daughters to activities, attending track meets and cheer competitions, and making the most of every season of life.

“I don’t know if it’s always the most relaxing way to recharge, but I know these moments are fleeting, so I’m trying to enjoy every bit of them.”

She also enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and spending time with family and friends. And while many of her colleagues know her as the person who keeps everyone organized, they may be surprised to learn she’s also a huge shark enthusiast.

While much of her life today revolves around her daughters’ activities, Hilary already knows what adventure awaits when those busy parenting years begin to wind down. She hopes to one day swim with sharks—a goal that currently tops her empty-nester bucket list.

For seven years, Hilary has helped keep Newport moving forward with grace, professionalism, and a steady presence. While much of her work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt throughout the organization every day.

And perhaps that’s the true mark of exceptional support: helping others succeed while rarely asking for the spotlight yourself.
