JOB DESCRIPTION

Oversee all accounting and internal control systems.  Newport Hospitality Group, Inc (NHG) manages and/or owns over 30 hotels in 13 different states.  The Vice President of Accounting will lead a team of accounting professionals and provide analytical support to help drive profitability of the business.  The position acts as a financial business partner to the senior executive team and an advisor to property owners.

Primary Duties:

1. Timely preparation and delivery of monthly financial statements for all properties, as well as cash forecasting and capital budgeting.

2. Oversight of the internal control functions including revenue controls, cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory controls.

3. Management of a corporate accounting staff of 10 persons.

4. Identify, develop, analyze, and report upon key financial and operational performance measures. Provide advice and expertise to company leadership on a wide range of topics including cost management, operational controls, and performance management.

5. Have involvement across the organization to ensure the proper application of accounting practices. Understand industry trends and incorporate them into new business strategies.

6. Support outside audit firm in the preparation of each property’s annual report (where applicable) and support outside accounting firm in the preparation of the income tax returns (where applicable).

7. Maintaining NHG corporate books and records.

8. Prepare replacement reserve reimbursement requests for all qualified capital expenditures. Also ensure all replacement reserve escrow accounts meet lender/owner requirements.

9. Oversee and be well versed in information technology applications including but not limited to property management systems, back office accounting systems, and corporate accounting systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting and three to five years as a hotel controller; lodging corporate accounting experience and multiple property experience is a plus.
  • A CPA is strongly preferred.
  • A person who is comfortable in both property and corporate settings and is able to project a level of confidence in all hotel accounting matters. Must be willing to react to changes, particularly those found in an entrepreneurial environment, and adjust to shifting but equally important priorities.
  • Written communication to all levels of management both inside and outside of NHG; therefore, excellent writing and oral presentation skills are required.
